34 Why is it not possible that the bible is just a random book written by crazy people?

Seriously if the book was written today people would think these people are psychooooooo. If it was literally the word of God, that means that literally every single letter and word are true. Thats funny to even think. Soooo if some of it is true and some false couldn’t it just be written by everyday people who just made up their own answers?

I can see how you’d think that … if archaeology and prophecy hadn’t validated scripture again and again.

The historical account of scripture is exceptional. While not every bit of it has been verified, it has never been proven wrong by archaeology. The accounts of people, places, rulers, and events that can be validated demonstrate clearly that the Bible is unparalleled in its accuracy as a document of past events.

The prophetic content of scripture is also substantial. By the Bible’s own definition, prophecies must be 100% accurate, or they’re not from God. Prove the Bible wrong on its prophetic claims, and you destroy the Bible’s credibility completely. The problem is that can’t be done!

Scripture makes some VERY specific predictions. My favorite: While the Jewish temple still stood in Jerusalem, it was predicted that the Babylonians would destroy the temple, but that it would be rebuilt by Cyrus. At the time, no one knew who Cyrus was. The Babylonians came to Israel, destroyed the temple completely, and took many of the Israelites captive. When the Medeo-Persian Empire came to be, it was lead by — you guessed it — Cyrus. He defeated the Babylonians, allowed the Israelites to go home, and then helped rebuild the Jewish temple.

Predictions of Cyrus were made more than 100 years prior to his birth.

Show me a book with more historical accuracy or more prophetic accuracy, and I’ll toss out my Bible and believe that one instead.

As much as I agree with you, the bible isn’t literally the word of God, it is how man deciphered it.

  3. Izzy says:

None of it is false. It is ALL true. All the fulfilled prophecies prove it.

It’s "not possible", because it’s highly probable.

History has many ancient writings that are universally held as being true. When one considers the accuracy of an ancient document there are several things to consider. One is the number of copies that exist and how closely they resemble one another. Also, how close in age is the oldest surviving document as to when the original was actually written.
Thus, it is of importance to give credence to how many copies still exist today, how those copies compare to one another and how close the earliest transcript is to the original work.
Below are some of histories most famous writings.

    Homers Iliad
643 copies of which the oldest is still 500 years from when Homer wrote it.

    Herodotus
8 copies of which the oldest is still 1,350 years from when he wrote it.

    Thucydides
8 copies of which the oldest is still 1,300 years from when he wrote it.

    Plato
7 copies of which the oldest is still 1,300 years from when he wrote it.

    Demosthenes
200 copies of which the oldest is still 1,400 years from when he wrote it.

    Caesar
10 copies of which the oldest is still 1,000 years from when he wrote it.

    Livy
20 copies of which the oldest is still 1,000 years from when he wrote it.

    Tacitus
20 copies of which the oldest is still 1,000 years from when he wrote it.

    Pliny Secundus
7 copies of which the oldest is still 750 years from when he wrote it.

As you can see histories most famous writings consist of but a few copies that many times still leaves a 1,000 year gap in time from when the author wrote it to the earliest surviving copy. Even more telling is that there are significant discrepancies among the those few copies. If you were to extrapolate out these compounding errors over that missing 1,000 year gap one could see a significant variance from the original work. Yet all the world readily embraces these works of literature at face value without scrutiny and hold them up as fact.
Now that we see how these ancient works are seen and embraced lets look at the Bible.

The Bible consists of some 25,000 various manuscripts, scrolls, parchments and papyrus’s. Some of which are believed to be within 25 years of the original! Also there is much that is within 100-200 years of the original. But really how do we know if these copies are accuate or not? Easy, just look at the succeeding variances from one copy to the next to the next etc. If there are no differences in a thousand years of copies its reasonable to assume that the missing copies for that 25-100 years are the same as well. The Judeo Christian scriptures are by far the most numerous and the most accurate from one copy to the next. There is nothing even close. One would assume that the more copies that existed the more room for error there would be over 25,000 pieces. Nope, the opposite is true.
The Bible is the most attacked book in history. It is the most popular book in history and still is today.

    Matthew 24

  9. Lisa says:

i’ve had this conversation so many times! and i don’t think anyone will ever be able to give you a correct answer, i also think if someone was to write the equivalent to a bible nowadays they would probably just get laughed at!

  10. SuperKitty says:

  15. SomeGuy says:

I don’t think it was written by crazy people.
    Just greedy people.
The same sort of people exist today and are rewriting the bible every week. Carrying on about a couple of verses every sunday, asking for money so they can buy a new mini-van with the touring package instead of just the base model.

  16. Jack P says:

It’s just a book, a history of a people including their belief in a diety and the behaviors they used it to excuse.

  17. Morey000 says:

That’s silly. It says right there in the book that it’s not.

  18. Ouroboro says:

Becuase it has a lot of similarities with ancient events that we are just now proving are true.

Like Babylon, and different historical events like how the FIRST gods got here, and how there was a great age of humans in history rivaling our time.

It’s not all rubbish, whoever thinks that isn’t very intelligent and can’t respect history and will probably die not knowing what kind of world they were living in.

People are even looking into the giants that used to walk the Earth, like different species before humans that aided humans…

Most of history is still hazy, we don’t know as much as we think we do. And people will always laugh at it because they love to think that we know everything about our past, but people can laugh and be wrong too. So just keep watching CNN and keep saying you know it all.

  19. Gravel says:

It is a book of different stories told by different people over different periods of time for various reasons and then taken out of the context of time and place and culture and translated time and again unto utter confusion. It is neither the inspired word of "God" nor a composition of "crazy people".

The scriptures are a collection of works by a variety of authors. It was complied into a single volume to support the beliefs of kings and organized religions. It provides a series of stories and experiences so as to help people better understand their religious experience.
Darwin’s work is also a great piece of fiction unsupported by real evidence, just another theory on life.

  23. Dave says:

if someone said "it will not rain until i say so" and from that moment on there ends up not being a single drop of rain for a few years and then when he says it can rain it does, would you think he was simply a crazy person?

  24. Mrs. Washington says:

If it were a random book written by crazy people it would not remain the most selling book of all time. It is literally the word of God and every word is true, funny to think it or not… None of it is false all of it is true and no one just made up answers, the words were given to them from God our creator, Jesus Christ our Savior and were inspired by the Holy Spirit…

  25. Spiritual Philosopher says:

  28. patheher says:

    1. You haven’t read or studied the Bible at all, have you? If you had, you would know that it was written by many different people in 3 different countries, in 3 different languages, all with the same message and written over many many generations. I don’t think a bunch of random crazy people could coordinate that, especially how Old Testament prophecy comes to fulfillment in the New Testament.

    2. Every word and letter is true. Just because you can’t wrap your head around that concept, doesn’t mean it’s false. It’s all the word of God, and it’s all true.

  29. Snori says:

The old testament was written by ancient Hebrew leaders as a way of controlling society. It’s a lot easier to say "do it because God said so" than "do it because I said so."

joe b – those are not all taken as fact. If they are, it is only because they have also been verified with other works and/or evidence. They are also generally describing history, not religion. Which do you think people are more likely to be biased about? Besides, the Bible has changed a lot over time, and the changes were fairly obvious – particularly the council that met in Constantinople to decide which books should go in to help along various leaders’ political agendas.

  30. KAL says:

    Several reasons…

For one, there is simply to much consistency across the 40+ different "crazy people" who wrote it, many of whom never met any of the other authors.

For two, crazy people aren’t generally thought of as understanding the fundamentals of modern psychology…especially when those crazy people lived two thousand or more years before those fundamentals were "discovered" by modern psychology researchers.

For three, the chances that "crazy people" could even read and write thousands of years ago are slim to none. The authors were, quite obviously, in the top 5 to 10% of the population in terms of education and while that’s no guarantee of sanity, given the treatment of crazy people at the time, they’d have been shunned and ignored if the demonstrated any hint of abnormal behavior. Only if their writings were hidden until everyone who knew about them died would anyone have read or followed anything they said…and we know that people read and followed most of their instructions during their lifetime.

  31. chihuahua says:

It is your choice to believe it or not in the bible and if you think people who wrote the bible is crazy then you will think I am crazy to read and to hear God word For it is my choice to believe in the bible and I have hopes and ambitions in my future and when I die I will be proud of my faith in believing in something you don’t and that is hope.
    God Bless

  32. skepsis says:

If it was "random" or "written by crazy people", it wouldn’t survive very long. Back in the day people didn’t waste ink on meaningless nonsense. Even the prophecies had to make some kind of sense or they would end up in the fire. So rest assured, it was serious and reasonable at the time it was written, and for many centuries afterward.

  33. fooee says:

The Bible is not a history book. Nonetheless, whenever God’s Word incidentally touches on any aspect of history it is always accurate. "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition to the value of the Bible as a source of history." (William F. Albright, Archaeology and the Religions of Israel, pp. 127,128).

Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. (The remaining 500 or so reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.) Since the probability for any one of these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance averages less than one in ten (figured very conservatively) and since the prophecies are for the most part independent of one another, the odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 10 to the 2000 power (that is 1 with 2000 zeros written after it)!

After 2000 years of scrutiny, there is not one proven contradiction or error in the Bible.

  34. Kara says:

The men who transcribed the scrolls were highly skilled and educated scholars and scribes. These people literally devoted their entire lives to writing God’s Word. You are too immature to understand a concept like that, as your using of the term "psycho" is bestowed so loosely.

Historical figures such as Socrates, Einstein, Plato and Michelangelo were all considered geniuses, but also maniacal to general society. It is all figurative.

The fact is, that the Bible was written at a perfect time in the world’s time-line. Men in ancient times were far more honourable and dedicated to genuine matters and took life more seriously than in today’s depraved society. The Bible is, and always has been, a brilliant book that no man could ever possibly create, even the most discerning men ever born.

God’s Word will still exist – long after we paltry mortals are gone.
