3 What alternatives are there to the Peace Corps?

I’d like to work or volunteer overseas for a few years, but I don’t have the letters of recommendation needed for the Peace Corps. Are there legitimate, long-term programs out there as alternatives?

Please help! Thanks!
I am NOT willing to pay for the experience.

Most of them you will need to pay for. A domestic alternative it Americorps. It’s not overseas, but it is a long term (usually 10-12 months) and you are allowed to "re-up" for a second term, or even a third in a different program. This would be a good experience if you would like to consider the Peace Corps in the future. It would show that you are able and willing to volunteer long term and understand the financial burdens and hardships.

I was searching through the Haiti stuff and I found some paying jobs in Haiti. I don’t know if you want a job like this, but I will provide you with the url.

Several of the jobs appeared very tempting to me since I’ve been trained in them. Good luck.
